I am a landscape architect and biologist based in Chicago, Illinois. My work focuses on functional and productive cyclical systems - of any nature or scale - ornamental, native, garden, farm. By combining design and science, we create places of lasting importance, satisfying the historic treatise of "firmness, commodity, and delight". My interests include the design of educational spaces such as college campuses, elementary and grade schools, public spaces such as urban neighborhoods, multi-family community gardens, municipal farms and forests, and private spaces such as food-integrated urban gardens, orchards, and suburban homesteads. My current work includes design|build for home and community scale sustainability projects. I enjoy cross-learning from other fields and simultaneously study restoration ecology, ecological engineering, agro-ecology, urban planning, and international development.
